Is a Private OCD Assessment Right for You?

An OCD assessment may be worth considering if:
  • You've been trying to understand certain thoughts, worries or behaviours — but still don't have a clear explanation
  • You've wondered whether OCD could explain what has been happening, but an online test or questionnaire hasn't given you the certainty you're looking for
  • Certain patterns keep taking up more time or mental space than you'd like — and you want to understand why
  • You've previously sought help, but still feel there may be something that hasn't been fully understood
  • You want to speak to a consultant psychiatrist who will look beyond a checklist and consider the whole picture

You don't need to know whether it's OCD before asking for an assessment.

A private OCD assessment with Dr Musa Sami, Consultant Psychiatrist, gives you the opportunity to explain what's been happening in detail. He will consider whether OCD is the most appropriate clinical explanation, whether something else may be contributing, and what the most appropriate next steps may be.

What’s Included in Your Private OCD Assessment?

A comprehensive, consultant-led OCD assessment for adults across the UK.
The goal isn't to confirm a diagnosis you already suspect. It's to understand what's actually happening — and give you a clearer way forward.

Still have questions? Here are the ones we hear most often.

What is a private OCD assessment?
A private OCD assessment is a comprehensive psychiatric assessment to explore whether the difficulties you would like help understanding are consistent with Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD).
Dr Musa Sami will consider your thoughts, worries, behaviours or patterns, their impact on everyday life, your mental health history and any other relevant factors before reaching a clinical opinion.
Can a psychiatrist diagnose OCD?
Yes. A psychiatrist is a medically qualified doctor specialising in mental health and can assess and diagnose conditions including OCD.
Your assessment with Dr Musa Sami will consider recognised diagnostic criteria alongside your wider clinical history. A formal psychiatric diagnosis can be provided where clinically appropriate.
What happens during an OCD assessment?
An OCD assessment is a detailed clinical conversation rather than simply an online test or questionnaire.
You'll have time to explain what's been happening in your own words, including the thoughts, worries, behaviours or patterns you would like help understanding. Dr Sami will explore their nature, frequency and impact alongside your wider mental health history.
He will then consider whether OCD is the most appropriate clinical explanation and explain the findings and recommended next steps.
What if I'm not sure whether I have OCD?
You don't need to know whether you have OCD before requesting an assessment.
Establishing whether OCD is the appropriate diagnosis is one of the reasons for having a psychiatric assessment. Dr Sami will consider the whole clinical picture rather than assuming OCD is the answer before the assessment begins.
What if I find some of my thoughts difficult to talk about?
You can explain your experiences at a pace that allows them to be properly understood.
Some thoughts or concerns can feel difficult, uncomfortable or confusing to discuss. The purpose of the assessment is to understand them from a clinical perspective, not to judge what you describe.
You don't need to have found the right words or made sense of everything before the appointment.
Will I definitely receive an OCD diagnosis?
No. An OCD diagnosis cannot be guaranteed before a clinical assessment has taken place.
The purpose of the assessment is to establish the most appropriate clinical explanation. If the findings support a diagnosis of OCD, this can be formally diagnosed. If another explanation appears more appropriate, Dr Sami will discuss this with you instead.
Can other mental health conditions be considered during the assessment?
Yes. Some experiences associated with OCD can overlap with, or occur alongside, other mental health conditions.
As a Consultant Psychiatrist, Dr Sami can consider your wider mental health picture and explore other possible or co-existing conditions where clinically relevant.
Will I receive a written report after my OCD assessment?
Yes. A written psychiatric report is included in the assessment fee.
The report will document the relevant clinical findings, diagnosis where appropriate, and recommendations arising from your assessment.
Do I need a GP referral for a private OCD assessment?
No. You do not need a GP referral to book a private OCD assessment with Dr Musa Sami.
You can submit a confidential enquiry directly through this page. The team will then contact you about availability and any information required before your appointment.
What happens if I am diagnosed with OCD?
If OCD is diagnosed, Dr Sami will explain the findings and discuss appropriate next steps based on your individual circumstances.
Your written psychiatric report will include clinical recommendations. If OCD is not considered the most appropriate diagnosis, Dr Sami will explain the alternative clinical findings and recommendations.

If your question isn't answered here, you're welcome to include it in your enquiry and we'll respond personally.

Ready to Get Some Clarity?

"If you're not sure whether this is right for you, that's completely understandable. Most people feel that way before they reach out. The enquiry is just a conversation — there's no commitment involved."
